    AP1 Build Thread: '83 CX650 Cafe Racer

Firstly, I'd like to introduce myself and my bike. My name is Parker, I am 19 from Raleigh NC. Just purchased my first bike from a friend. It is a 1983 CX650, and it needs quite a bit of work to be honest. Mechanically, engine and drivetrain wise, the bike is a gem. Aesthetically, it needs a lot of work. Here she is a few days after purchase.

The previous owner thought it was a brilliant idea to rattle can everything from the frame to the coolant hoses to the valve covers bright red and thankfully I have already taken care of most of that. As you can see from the pictures, the previous owner also thought that it was a good idea to chop off the tail end of the frame which is completely useless for the look that I am seeking.

Using User Bedrich7's bike as inspiration for my build, I got ahold of some scrap metal and decided to take care of the drop in the frame today.
Cut the tubing to size. Just mocked up sitting on the frame:
Right side notched to fit and sits nice and snug on the frame:
Both pieces notched and sitting on frame:
Now to weld them on. Plan on doing so tonight. Will take pics and update.

Is that pipe galvanized? It looks to be in the photos. Be sure you take it down to bare metal.

No, sir. It's just got some paint and rust on it.

Awesome! Thanks! I wanted to do the first for real build thread for a cafe style cx650. There's the VietHorse and Bedrich7's builds, but I wanted to do an absolute step by step of everything I do. I am really looking forward to working on this heavily over the next few months. Will keep updating regularly.
