This weekend I was able to get the mechanical seal, new stator, and front and rear cases installed.

I had to bore out the rear case for the larger mechanical seal. Using a Dremel 504 flap wheel, I was finally able to get it bored out enough for the seal to fit. After 1-1/2 hours, 5 tries, and many choice words, it is in! Also new oil seal.

    New Stator (Thanks CustomRewind)

Here it is right before the rear case was put on.

Hope to get the fan and cooling system installed tonight. Getting close to hearing her run again.

I'd say it was poorly maintained. And if that's the chain that caused the damage, it still isn't adjusted properly, judging by the small amount of the adjustment slot visible below the bolt.

If that is adjusted properly, the PO installed a new chain at some point. Not sure why you think the tensioner is bad.

Randall, the pic you show indicates very little, if any, adjustment of the tensioner left. There is no gap left on top of the bolt. Here it is after the new chain and tensioner replacement. I agree, though, that the old tensioner seemed to be in decent shape.

May the myriad of wheels in your head, keep the two wheels between your legs rubber side down.

A stretched chain will show a bit at the bottom. If the pic shows it properly adjusted, there's still a little life left in that one. Not that replacing it is a bad thing.

If this chain did that damage to the case, it's because it was slack (not kept properly tensioned.). Stretched chains don't chew engine cases. Slack chains do (and stretch.)

Thanks for all the info about the cam chain. I just suspected that since the chain was eating into case that it was a bad chain and tensioner. Looking at the old tensioner now, it doesn't seem to be in that bad of shape. Went ahead and replaced both anyway because I had them.

Last major replacement of the winter will be the steering stem bearings. Went ahead and got the AllBalls tapered bearings. I was able to get the old races out of the headstock with little issue. The bottom race that was stuck on the steering stem took a little more effort, but finally came off.

I got the new races seated into the headstock by putting them in the freezer for a little while.

Now I am stuck. I can't get the bottom bearing to fit down onto the steering stem. I put the stem in the freezer for over 2 hours and still can't get the bearing pressed on. Anyone have any suggestions for me?

Probably could clean the area where the race fits with solvent, sandpaper and maybe steel wool, maybe a fine file,
the old one came off hard and the new one will go on hard. Some grease may help.

Short length of PVC pipe and a dead blow hammer. Tap it into place.
