I will give this a try. Hopefully I can get it clean enough that it will slide on with just a little effort and I wont have to get the hammer out like ChopperCharles suggested. Might be able to give it a try tonight. Thanks for the suggestions!

Cleaned up the base with some degreser and steel wool. Then took some 220 grit sand paper to it for a minute or 2. Stuck it in the freezer for about 3 hours.

Got everything setup and placed the bearing on the stem, didn't go on nicely, go course. Got some PVC and a mallet. Gave her a few, maybe 10 or so, nice whacks and she was seated.

Greased up both sets of bearings and installed. Very happy with how it turned out. Looking forward to getting it all back together.

Decided to change the color of the tank. Hope to get it primed tomorrow.

Only had a few areas that were tough to get off.

I need to prep the side panels for paint as well. What is the best way to remove these old stickers? I started to sand them, but I am not sure that is the best thing to do. Opinions?

Warm them up first and they will peal off easier.
If you have a curled up edge, you can use some Goo Gone and a plastic scraper to remove them.

we are all given sh*t in life, but some of us learn to turn it into fertilizer and grow from it, and some us try to fling it on others like monkeys.

I made a lot of progress on Friday. This is what she looked like when the day started.

Got the first full coat of paint on the tank.

Tore the forks apart and replaced the seals. Also got some rubber boots.

Installed the motor back in the frame, mounted the new Renthal handlebars, and put the front end back together. It is really starting to come together.

The "mouth" of the air filter snorkel should show to the rear of the bike.

    Looks great!
I'm slowly transforming my cx in the scrambler direction too. Love that you've kept the air box intact. If I had to do it over again I would have left mine there---took a lot of work to move all the electronic bits around just to get it back to driveable!
