Yesyes. I was offline for a very few weeks from the forum but now at least I am a bit clued up again on all the things of the thingy. Looking forward to the frame and bodywork of the real thingy finishing up.

Thanks Izak, and welcome back. I'll be off to the shed once I've sorted the missus out for the day to put the clutch cover back together and fit it. Then block up some holes and give this motor a final clean before etch priming and painting.

It's fairly clean now. I cleaned it {except for the bottom} before it went in the test bike. I cleaned the bottom while I had it laying on its back on the bench to helicoil one of the heads engine hanger bolt holes which was stripped. Just needs a quick going over to be ready to prime.

I'll be using duplicolor aluminium engine enamel which is the same stuff I used on the test bikes motor. Seems good stuff. I used to use VHT but it became hard to get in South Australia when one of the national importers stopped bringing it in. I did manage to procure 8 tins of VHT cast iron engine enamel when I became aware this was happening as this will be the frame paint for the thingy. I like it better than duplicolors take on the same color. This will be matched in acrylic laquer or maybe 2 pack on the bikes tinware. Much else will be black. As you can tell I'm not after bright colours on this one.

Bob, I'll take a few photos of the gantry rail this weekend.

It's hard to get VHT. Autobarn stock a very limited supply, and are invariably out of stock on the one you want.
There are some good vendors on ebay that post aus wide, but they're about $20 per can.

I'm about a 5 minute walk from the distributor (speco?) but I've never seen them open, so I suspect they're strictly wholesale.

Here's the photos of the gantry rail. Nice and stiff with no deflection when the motor is hung on the middle of it. It is two pieces of one inch steel tube. I had another piece of square tube that was a sleeve fit into these so this was drill welded into the lower of the two outer tubes effectively doubling its wall thickness.

Also, a pic or two of the painted motor waiting for final assembly and detailing.Name: gantry 003.JPG
