Mine was like that from the PO and it had heating issues until I put one in.
It would not warm up properly and then it would get very hot and run at nearly "over heat" on the gauge.
I just cant imagine who took it apart and though to themselves, 'well this doesnt look important'.

The whole cooling system was pretty gummed up, maybe it wasnt flowing well and removing the thermo 'fixed' the problem! Out of sight out of mind!

You'll be fine. They're on the bike I was testing ignitions on. I've run stock CDI, ignitech and both variants of Raesan ignitions on that bike in that time. All good.

Underneath the fan locking bolt, surprise! Stripped puller threads. Anyone got any ideas on how to get the fan off?

You could cut new threads, slightly larger in diameter and use appropriate bolt. Others have used a pickle fork to remove the fan and some have used a gear puller. Be aware that the end of the camshaft is brittle and can be snapped off rather easily; avoid side loads on the end of the camshaft such as might be caused by using a hammer.

    It's a 2 inch long M14 x 1.5 mm bolt with a flat end.

Rebuilt my carbs this week using Larrys guide, which taught me some new tricks and inspired me to buy an ultrasonic cleaner.???

The guide doesnt mention these two vents and this vacuum port. The vents had a tube connecting them and the port was plugged. What are the purposes of these and what should i do with em?
