    Gl650 carport find rebuild

Had the day off today, so I'm starting to diagnose my latest find. On Mon. I dropped off the ignition switch at the "lock smith" to cut a key. Well he cut a key that did little more than any other key I already had. Switch is in the locked position and will turn from park to lock but still wont unlock. New key doesn't work in tank cap or any of the bag locks... Ok took tank and a bag lock to another guy for keys I have used in the past. I am praying he can at least get the tank open and a key for bags. Got to get them off before too long.

Went a got a battery, filled and charged it up. Found another ignition switch in my parts box that had a key that works. put the spare tank on. Drained the left carb got what appeared to be a full bowl of old fuel out. Opened the left drain nothing... Hmm! Just for grins drained the oil. looked great! cleanish and no sparkles. Did not do filter as the bolt may have one more removal with vice grips (I hope) refill with cheap dino to be drained again soon. Opened the petcock, key on, kill switch off. Crank a bit oil light goes off. Sweet!

Choke on fresh gas in tank and she tries to start briefly on left side only, any application of throttle kills it. Not trying to hard to make it run yet. pulled the balance screw and sprayed some carb cleaner inside. May have fired a bit but hard to tell. Screw it the carbs need work anyways. I thought GL500 carbs were hard to remove. NOT!

650's are a tight bitch to get out. Out in the light, I opened both drains again an low an behold both bowls are full of fuel. WTF is going on here? possibly a plugged drain line?
Spark plugs looked fair and both sides had nice blue spark.

well got home last night and was able clean and free up 6 of the 7 remaining locks that the locksmith didn't work out. I still have one from the trunk that is stuck in the lock position. Since 9 out of 10 work with the same key, I am assuming the 10th should also?? I did pull a couple small chunks of "gravel" out of this one, just to insert key! I have been using Pb blaster and carb spray as lube and clean. Any one have any other ideas. Key wants to turn cylinder a bit. The others broke free after wiggling key for a while.

Guess it helps to look at lock codes more closely. Trunk lock was indeed different than all others. Was able to pull the circ clip, remove cylinder and re pin the lock to work with new key.
Will be moving on today to do cam chain inspection and maybe rebuild the front brake rotors. Pics and questions to follow.

    max extension is abt 18mm.

that looks to be 10-11 mm.

(compareing to the 10mm cap screw head)

I would go forward an keep a eye on it .
