This is all a much gone over topic but here is the main crux Recycling any exsisting mono shock into a direct action has 2 Major flaws and they are as follows The original design they come from uses a linkage system That linkage system reduces the total travel the shock needs to move . So when used in a direct action the stroke of the shock does not provide enough swing arm travel The same reduction linkage is why the shock needs a much stiffer spring buy close to plus 40 percent in order to support theLevered weight excerted on the shock by direct action Hence the pogo stick comment This is all stuff that has been tried proven discussed And worked thru It is also basic engineering in fact in last weeks,Exact same discussion i quoted Archemides on it

there are very few non lever mono shocks as the lever

changes everything as a rising rate the valving is completely

different to a linkless system, the progressive rising rate

has to be in the spring and this makes it impossible

to just change to a heavy spring the damping would

    be Insufficient exacerbating the "Pogo"

the KTM I heard has link-less system but I have been unable to

find what model If it even exists.

I like the idea of a mono shock.

But at this point the expense to do the conversion

    is not cost effective.

Except for the system that was in the build thread

    posted,or somthig very similar.

If anyone does find a shock that works for those eBay kits, let me know. I'd love to have a setup like that on a bike. It looks really sweet... unfortunately, I want my bikes to handle...

If one wants to use a shock from a linkage type application on a CX500 with a simple mount on the swing arm, is it possible to have a linkage mount for the top of the shock instead of the bottom?

if you weight the srung weight of the bike loaded with the driver (and passenger is so desired)

    then deduct the unsprung weight

and you measure the fulcrum point to axle and fulcrum point to swingarm bearing center

plus the desired range of motion at the fulcrum point

then a shock can be made or tailored for your application

if anyone needs help with the calcs just ask
