We are finishing up some items left over from last winter. The license plate may be hitting the rear tire and gets bent. It doesn't hit the tire when we sit on it and apply some weight to it. I researched a side mount but didn't really see much. Kyle is 6'2" about 220 lbs. Anything we can do about this? We bent the plate out but it doesn't look very good.
We are sending the seat out to get it modified to move him back a few inches but before we do, any other advice on the seat for a tall rider?
The suspension will compress much farther over bumps than it will with just someone on the seat. To make sure of clearances you need to put tie downs between the swingarm & frame on both sides and cinch the suspension down all the way. This should be done before taking it out on the street if you have made any changes around the rear wheel/tire. You were lucky that you only bent the plate...
Yeah. Looks OK aside from being on the right (I think plates mounted like that are supposed to be on the left so that they are visible by a cop in the driver's seat of the cruiser following you) and obstructed by the shock (see above about the cop being able to read it).
But if it is getting bent you still need to cinch the rear end down and find out what it is hitting before you have real damage...
We will cinch it down and see. We'll get some pictures too.
The plate actually curled on the bottom edge in the direction the tire spins. We didn't change the suspension any, just put on new rear brakes and a new tire. Since this was our first rebuild, we took the bike to a well-know motorcycle restorer in our area and asked him to check the whole bike for any problems with our work. He stated that the bike ran very strong and he didn't see anything.
HMM now u got me thinking.... I mounted mine on the right so I could tuck it in closer the the rim. Think I'm gonna take the gamble here in NH. Dropping all my parts off with the powder coater today
