    GL650 Bobber build CARB/JET question

Hello all, im new to these forums so please excuse me if this has been covered already.

Im in the process of building a bobber out of my 83' GL 650. I bought the bike for $100 from a kid that had it on its side more than on its wheels. Being so thrashed I decided to bobber the bike.

My question is: Can I put cone filters directly on the carbs without re-jetting the carbs? I built a kz750 café for a friend and we had to re-jet and sync the carbs for the cone filters.

At this point i cant even find jet kits or part numbers for the carbs. id like to just run cone filters as ive completely cut the back end off the bike and want to keep the open look.

    Thank you for your help!

At a guess, I'd think you would be looking at 90/122.5 jets to run pods on a 650.

Thanks for the replys. What is meant by Hbox? all that is on the carbs right now is the splitter boot that adapts the airbox to the carbs. Which jets are stock in the carbs now? Thanks again.

650s are generally jetted 78/117.5 [118] as standard.

The H box is the crossover in the exhaust beneath the motor.

Awesome! This is great info! I wont be running the h box in that case. I had been running the bike off and on before I really dug into the build with the open intake and h box in, but as soon as I took the box off, she did not want to run at all. I figured the pipe offered quite a lot of back pressure so im not sure exactly how in going to run my exhaust yet, but I cant use the h box.

Im also about 3200ft above sea level

For the slow jet it seems 80 is as high as I can find

on the jets r us site that fogelsvillejoe sent me they only list cx650 with keihin carbs, Am I to assume the gl and cx 650's had the same carbs? the reason for my concern is that they list 45/122 as typical jet sizes

    Thanks again!

    Welcome to the forum!

I'm not familiar with the specifics on the 650's, but when I ordered my jets for my CX500 I used the Jets R' Us "identify_that_jet" link to sort out what I needed.

Ok great ill mess around with jet r' us and has anyone used carbjetkits.com at all? they have a calculator but again no gl650, so are they the same carbs as the cx650's or the cb650's? I know the manufactures will use the same carbs a lot.

Also I talked a kid today who built a twin piston Kawasaki with pods and open exhaust, he didn't have a clue what I was talking about when I asked him about rejetting and he said his bike runs fine.

Is there enough adjustability in the carb without rejetting? I want it run strong as ive already been challenged to a race on the local track by a buddy building a cb400 café lol

Thanks again--This is the best information ive found since I owned the bike!
