I am wondering if a stock exhaust gasket packing sleeves will fit between the adapter and the headder flange area. I just am not sold on the idea of welding. I want to clamp it or use springs.

I am thinking the same thing. I am going to use my Murray's pipes on the machine I use in the winter and wherever I have welded the exhaust in the past rusts faster.

The Murray pipes are the right size to fit snugly into the Harley mufflers I have so using the Harley clamps there shouldn't be an issue.

But they are really loose on both original headers and the new set from Silver's. The difference looks to be about 1/8" so I can easily make adapters out of a piece of exhaust pipe to fill the space. I really don't want to use U-bolt muffler clamps this time. Anyone have any suggestions about suitable clamps?

Also, any ideas about how to keep them from rusting when they salt the roads? (BTW, another reason I don't want to weld is so I can replace them easily if they do rust out).

I've seen those. Will they crush the pipe enough to seal?

I haven't used them, and they're from China, but if you've got some relief cuts and a gasket, maybe?

I used these from McMaster to secure the extension pipes on the exhaust:McMaster-Carr
and the stock clamps on the other end...yes in order to seal i used a high-T gasket sealer: https://www.amazon.com/Permatex-8218.../dp/B0002UEN1U

These would be ideal except that I'm not sure whether they will fit. The page says "up to 2" but I've never seen them in person and its hard to tell from the pic whether they will work on 1.75" OD pipes. I submitted a question about it so we'll see if I get an answer. The next time I'm going to be near an exhaust shop I'll take the pipes with and ask there too.
