Don't think you need to re-jet w your plan. Loose the h-box you need to re-jet
New to the forums here but have been following and reading quite a bit. I just purchased a 79 Cx500 and am planning to turn it into a scrambler.
I have read many posts and threads discussing changing from stock Airbox to pods with 90/120 main jets.
I understand this configuration works if you are removing the h-box.
My plan is to run:
- stock carbs
- stock exhaust
- k&n RC-2340 pods
- keep the h-box
I know I have to re-jet, but can anyone tell me if I have to rejet with 90/120
are they different jets because I'm keeping the h-box?
I would suggest 82/115 with pods if keeping the H box.

I have keihnin carbs and am shopping for a filter without the lip.
In the atmospheric pods sticky, users are stating that this pod:
Yamaha XS650 Air Filter - 54mm. XS performance Pod Air Filter - Mikuni BS34 CV - Mike's XS - New OEM & Vintage Parts Supply Warehouse
does not have the obstructive rubber lip.
The description states that it is supported by Mikuni carbs. My carb is keihnin and takes 54mm pods.
Amyone run run this pod on keihnin's, or does anyone have know if this will work for me?

i stopped using the mike xs pods Due to them rusting from not being all stainless steel
i have my own made for me that are 54mm and fit the kehins they are 45 shipped to you they ar ethe same ones i use in my mikuni kts pm me if you want some
you have yo take care installing any of these on the kehins as clamp positioning is critical to get the filters to stay on
speedmotoco also sells some pods that work
cx500 vm34 ( also fits stock carbs) filter kit (2)
and uni makes some as does k&n
