Also, here's another 36-hole rear wheel I put together with the moto-synthesis rings. I found some oddball spokes that worked a lot better than the GL1000/CB750 harley 16" drop-center rim conversion spokes I used for my first rear wheel. Pics of the oddball spokes and the assembled (but not yet trued) 36-spoke rim:

I will not ride the bike like that, I will raise the forks before any ride. I dropped the forks only for the photos!

Like Murray said, don't drop your forks more than one inch!

Settled for .015". Getting it down to .010" was exceedingly difficult. Radial runout was easy, the lateral was the hard one. Specs are <= .030 radial and <= .040 lateral, so I'm okay with .015.

Finally mounted the tire, installed the rotors, and attached the wheel. It's kind of glorious. Or well, it would be if I ever washed the thing.

Latest pics! I put a normal front fender on it, instead of the high fender that was on it previously. This is the last pic I have of the bike with the Harley 17x4.5 rear rim.

That's because I wasn't super happy with the Harley rim. It weighs a metric asston (a technical term), and it's so wide I had to trim a little bit of the tire to fit it to the swingarm. Plus, I hadn't found proper spokes for it, and so it's laced with an under/under pattern instead of an under/over pattern, causing the spokes to bow some. Even so, I had no broken spokes and no problems with it at all for the 2400 miles or so I had it on the bike. At any rate, I decided to go ahead and lace my second set of rings (36h) to a Warp 9 rim, which matches the front rimt. Hugger fender is removed for this pic. Wheel is a lot lighter, and it now has a proper over/under cross pattern with some big and beefy 6/8 buchanan spokes. The Warp-9 rim is a 17x4.25 rim, and future tires won't need any trimming to fit and work on the GL500 swingarm. AAAAND it fits on a stock CX500 swingarm too! I had these rings drilled for the larger 6/8 spokes, because I wanted them to match the front spokes on the cognito-moto GSXR750 wheel conversion. (who wants dinkier spokes on the rear and beefier ones on the front?), but normally it uses smaller spokes. Buchanan has all the info for the spoke rings and can make you a set and have it to your door in about a week, for a bit over $100.

I wish I had at least the rear. It's a pain trying to get my old flip and latch head to get on the valve and I'm not paying $1 to use one of those gas station things. I get it done but it's a pain just for a few Lbs. adjustment.

I would have no time to ride if I had to do all the routine maintenance and cosmetics suggested, I chose riding (within my reasoning).
