    Guys,

trolling ebay I saw this and was wanting to know if the information supplied is correct or not - so I sent the seller a question and asked if it was possible to register the bike for road use in the USA - and I got the reply - as shown below?

any comments?? from those who might know ?

    what I sent

Dear flhrci01,From what I understand of these rare bikes is that you cannot register them for road use in the USA as Honda originally donated them to the TECH schools. ?? can you enlighten me on this??thanks

    what I got back

That's a bunch of internet expert BS man. Here's some enlightenment: Don't believe everything your read from people who have never done it.- flhrci01

OK... Here I go on my soapbox...

He doesn't own this bike.. He can't... There was no MSO produced on the bike because Honda didn't want to pay the import taxes and instead took a deduction to donate them to schools. Technically Honda still owns the bike and can show up with the Sheriff and take it. Wouldn't be too nice to pay for it and then have Honda take it away would it? I don't think you can legally export it from the US without a title? That has always been a requirement for me on my exports.

I don't know anything about the issue of donated school bikes but he does say he has a title.

That's what I was going to say before I changed my mind.

There must be some statute of limitations governing situations like this. I.e. adverse possession.

I would then think Honda's grievance would be against the school, not the possessor of the cycle.

But it makes a hell of a nice race bike..... The dings on the body parts are always there. No school bike survives 200 bodies climbing on them without lots of damage. The motor has probably been apart a few times as I discovered with my school bike. I had a stripped bolt on the turbo also. All torque specs are suspect, rings upside down, bearings all ka ka, needless to say valves are off. Everything that can be dialed, turned etc. has been. I bought my school bike for less than a third of this price.

Not sure about getting it titled. Some states it is as simple as walking in with a receipt and not much more, especially on an old bike. My bike did have all the numbers, stamps, stickers, etc. and I probably could get it tagged here in Arkiesaw.

Museum piece, no, as it will need a full repaint and some body work, then it is not original. I have two bikes that are much cleaner than this and with not much more mileage. Look at the crap and rust on the engine, it reminds me of that "pristine" restoration that was on Ebay six months ago.

I won't be surprised if he gets his price for the bike, but it won't be from me.

Earlier in the week he stated he didnt have a title, I have had no reason to look at the auction since, so my apologies for not realizing that he had titled it...Musta done that today.

I see also revised his description to state that the bike has never been torn down or touched.

He also states that the last 650t on ebay sold for 13k. If indeed that was the case it certainly wasn't a school bike and if I recall correctly the bike was in running condition with near perfect cosmetics; neither of which are the case here, but anyway...

Just like the low mileage 500 turbo that sold earlier this week, buyer beware...

I just emailed NDDOT with the VIN and other information the seller provided asking for proof of title and ownership.

    We'll see what happens.

Having said that, it could be a school bike in a legal frame.
