Exclamation New forum photo and video posting assistance.

    UPDATED 4-25-17

IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THE INSTRUCTIONS ARE FOR A PC BASED COMPUTER, SO NEWER DEVICES SUCH AS IPHONES AND TABLETS AND OTHER OPERATING SYSTEMS MAY NOT WORK AS EXPLAINED.
Smart phone and other mobile devices used here may not post correctly, as described. There has been discussion on the sideways photos, etc. Currently there is no solution for this on the forum side of things. The user will have to determine the best practice in order to post these correctly.

If anyone has suggestions or thoughts that might be of value, feel free to let us know, and the best way to do that is by using the Site Help section on the forum.

Tips on posting videos are at the bottom of this thread.

I have also added in updates for photos.

Many ask how to add photos to posts. So, with the new software here on the forum, things posted about this process before don't necessarily work the same way. I'm going to do a pictorial example of how I do it.
The previous software did not allow for uploading from the user's computer, but this one does. Here is what I've found. I apologize for the cruddy presentation. Please note, when using the URL button, sometimes you have to un-check the little box under the link insert to get the photo to show. So always preview your posts.

When you click that button in the posting, you have two options. Either from a picture saved to your local computer, or a URL link. If it is a photo on your computer, browse to find the location and insert it in the box. If it is from a URL, you must find the "source" link.

Here I have done a Google image search, and show the process.

Below, with the arrow, the "copy image location" is what you need to copy. That then can be pasted in the post button.

Excuse the poor shots here, but I hope you can see the gist.

Lastly, you can copy and paste directly into your post, a direct linked photo, as long as it comes from the true source, not just a web page.

** Update** In other words, if you find a photo you want to post here, right click on the source picture and choose "Copy Image". Go to your post text box and where your cursor is, paste the copied photo, and it will be a part of your post. This eliminates using the tool bar on the post.

I know this sounds complex, but it really isn't. I hope this helps.

That is why I prefer to use a host site and link from there.
The images can be much larger and in some VB sites you can not upload the same picture more than once but with off site hosting you can reuse the same picture many times.

terranz, I'm not too savvy with Iphone photos. I know that Photobucket has an editor for sizing but never had to use it.....so don't know how it works. If you have a picture that is saved to a computer file/folder, you can use a program like Irfan to edit them pretty easy. It's a free program.

You might try emailing the Iphone picture to yourself, and you should see three options for file size before sending. Then you can save them from your email and use Irfan to edit them. But I've never had to do this, all my pics in Photobucket are from a standard digital camera. And PB manages them automatically. Ninety nine percent of the time when I post photos here, I use PB as I explain. If you have the pic in your computer, and it's too big to post, use Irfan to re-size it.

Maybe someone else can chime in with better suggestions.

On you phone, you have options for pic size when shooting/saving in your settings.
You can change that size by opening the pic and changing the setting.

I personally prefer to save all photos at high res and just upload to PB.

*Raises his hand to ask a technical question* Sometimes when I go to post a picture instead of being given the choice of on my computer or the URL, the box will simply have a URL request only. Is there some way to reset this so I can upload from my computer? Thank You
