the timing is not adjustable as a matter of normal maintenance it is adjusted with the engine removed from the bike
I have an 83 CX650 that ran well and now it backfires when I try to start.
How do I adjust/check timing?
Have great hopes that this forum can provide the answer.
All the best,
did you check the spark plugs to make sure your getting spark at each plug ?..worth checking before you go tearing into it. as murrayf said..unless your spark plugs are bad ?..i see no other way it could have jumped time unless your cam chain jumped time ?, and this will require droping the engine to remove the rear cover to get to the cam chain. you can also check your pick up coils at the back of the motor..for the most part..this does not require you to drop the motor.

Also try replacing the plug wires with solid core wires.
