New to the world of 'fixin up' an old bike so bear with me. I have a 1983 Honda cx650 custom & would really like to find some crash bars (I think that's what you call them). I've seen them on other bikes like mine but I'm having a hard time finding any. Any ideas? I know the bike was a one year project for Honda & all the parts are a bit difficult to track down at times but I really like it & would like to start the process. Thanks!

Gl650 bars are the same if you can find them. Neither are on ebay. There was a set the other day and I suggested them to someone and they are now gone.

"Crash Bars" is a negative way of looking at things. I prefer to think I'm not going to crash and call them "engine guards" you know , in-case I crash.

Not sure where you're at, but these are the ones i'm looking at getting for my GL650I (once I can hide enough $$ from the wife to get 'em). These guys are out of the UK, and I haven't contacted them about shipping yet, but i'm sure for the right price they'd send 'em anywhere ya want.

Crash bars for a CX500 are usually pretty easy to find. With a little patience, I'm sure some will come up on ebay, craigslist, or even on this forum. I actually have a spare set but they are currently 3000 miles away from me at the moment. If you can wait 3 months, I can dig them up.

There are several different styles of CX500 crash bars. The most common style I see is one that I don't like because it hits the inside of my knee. Here's a picture.

Here's a style that I like better because they don't get in the way. I have a spare pair of this style in black, not chrome.

That strong and brown engine guard is pretty impressive.

My crash bars came with the bike. The PO said they were part of a fairing package. I didn't think I wanted crash bars, but I like the overall visual effect, and the protection. Looks like more like a cruiser, a little wider.
