    Cx550?

So the OP on this other forum says this bike is a CX550. Ive never heard of a 550 (not that it doesnt exist just because I've never heard of it) but some of the parts in the stock pics don't look very CX. Its very similar but it has dual front disc and a different fuse cover where the handlebars mount as well as some other subtle differences. Is this a CX550 and if so how rare are they?

    My CX500 build.

The title is My CX500 build. I suspect the CX550 in the text is a typo.

The CX550's are very rare bikes. Legend has it that Honda had to make the CX400 if it wanted to sell in certain Asian markets in order to get in under an onerous tax imposed in those countries on "large" cc machines.

When they modified these engines from 500cc's down to 400cc's, they had 100cc's left over at the factory they didn't know what to do with. Instead of paying to have someone dispose of the extra 100cc's, Honda added 50cc's to the CX500's that were on the same assembly line as the CX400's.

Built as an on the fly solution a production problem, ironically, the CX550's are now prized as the Holy Grail of the CX family of bikes, being even rarer than the Turbo incarnations of the model.

Jump on that bike before the seller figures out what he has. ;-)

To me it seems to be a -82 CX 500 Custom. Non-Us model --> Kph-speedo and dual front brakes. I believe late US Custom models had leading-axle front forks.

Twin-pot calipers definitely say -82, as do the slotted disc rotors. Also the fuse cover, afaik.

Just a normal -82 "European" CX 500 Custom.
