    Cool Hello from Daytona 2017

Today was my "demo" rides day. I rode a bunch of Harley's and Indians.
Harley-you fill out the paperwork-tell them what you want to ride-they send you off. No tour guide just follow the orange arrows. It is a 3 mile or so circuit. You ride around access roads on the perimeter of the International speedway. 80 mph plus straight a ways and turns. I rode a 1200 sportster-puke. Next a Breakout-good speed, not so good in the twisties, not very comfortable at all. Next a new M8 full dresser, fast smooth and comfortable.

Indian-you fill out the paperwork- wait in line-get safety instructions-get how to operate each model even the ones you are not riding-get told no wheelies-no passing-get lined up in a group with several yellow vested safety riders-off we go with a "follow me".
I got bitched at by a safety rider I passed. He was way behind the guy in front of him and I just took off.

The Indians I rode were quite, strong and smooth. The handled well and were very comfortable. I did manage to scrap a few running boards in the twisties. My favorite was a 111ci with just a windshield. No front console, but it did have bags.

If I ever buy a new bike I will definetly look at Indian.

As th day wore on the access road started to develope lots on burn out marks. Must have been those unescorted Harley drivers!

RIDE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT

we are all given sh*t in life, but some of us learn to turn it into fertilizer and grow from it, and some us try to fling it on others like monkeys.

Have not learned how to post pictures!

Pictures will never do it justice. The Wall of Death is a hoot. If you have never seem it try google.

    Another observation.
In Harley's tent you could get your boots shined, a back massage, an airbrushed tattoo, water, comfortable couches to sit and relax all for free.
The other tents nothing except maybe a cheap pair of sunglasses.

I still can't get over the difference in the demo rides. Harley just turns you loose. One guy said to me "have fun just take care of yourself we will worry about the bike".

Next year I am bringing the camper. We stay in St Augustine for the winter. Rossmeyers is 45 minutes, Daytona Speedway is 60 minutes, and Main Street is 1:15 depending on traffic. I have only attending during daylight hours. The camper will cut the commute to minutes and I can take a nap and stay out late. While I certainly don't feel 70 or even look 70 I am slowing down by the end of a long day. Plus this week has been very cold for Dayton. Mornings have been in the high 30's and daytime high 50's with strong winds. Saturday is supposed in the 70's.

Youth is certainly wasted on the young

    Thanks for the link.

    Murray,
I will be there again next year God willing. I talked with a number of engine builders. Some of the bike are just outrageous, beyond any of my imaginations.
Some of those bigger guys must have $100,000.00 in some of those bikes.
I saw one made of CNC blocks of aircraft aluminum and then bolted together. The engine was an S&S. The story is open exhaust was 209 crank HP.
I think with legal pipes and detuned for better street use was 170HP rear wheel. The damn thing had clear Windows so you could see the gas and oil and gears. I think it was call P51 with only 30 something made. They have been sold to movie stars and the like.

Next year I will probably have my motorhome in one of the parks. I may even put it in the park at the speedway. I think for 10 days it's something like $650 but that includes two pit passes.

On some of the Harley guys bellyache about Daytona. I have gone the last two years. Before that business always got in the way. As it did a lot of things.
Daytona Bike Week is so big it is impossible to see everything. It has so many venues advertised and not advertised. It is spread out over the surrounding communities. I rode home Saturday on A1A, bikes everywhere. Girls doing detailing along the way. Impromptu bike shows toooo much to take in.
If you are coming classic bikes you will be disappointed, but there is a classic bike event. Most of the bikes are Harley's or ones that look like Harley's and crotch rockets. Some of the paint jobs are beyond imagination. Some of the customs are beyond imagination. Alot of the people look like bikers. I don't, no tattoos, no long hair, no beard, no dirty old ratty vest, or leathers. I had a blast, no one seems to care I do not look like a biker. Many people commented on my Fatboy. I saw folks taking pictures of a great looking Moto Guizzi. I bet the same thing would happen if someone parked an old CX on Main Street. A cafe racer CX you would be swarmed with questions.
Don't let the fact you don't own a Harley keep you away from the largest motorcycle even in the world. If you don't like loud bikes remember your ear plugs. I had mine and I like loud bikes.

If you have never ridden a Hog, Daytona should be on your list. All you need is a driver's license, and the balls to ride one or ten. They even provide the helmet. Don't be intimidated.

Maybe a group could be put together to ride old twisted twins down Main Street next year?
