I have not been down in 45 years or so.

The number of times I have been down is in the hundreds. I am sure of that. Maybe 10 or so good road crashes. The hundreds came from years of racing.

My hat is off to you guys who have never bit the pavement. At 70 I do not want to taste it again.

I remember a number of long slides before I started to roll. All bad. Busted bones and missing skin. No fun.

This is one of my main reasons for getting away from the bike. The only time I went down other than standing still was at a walking pace, making a sharp turn on a cinder-covered parking lot, riding a Yamaha RD350, first bike I ever rode with reversed controls (my current bike was an old Ducati) and disk brakes. And of course, I had NO ATGATT, it was during a lunch hour, and I was wearing all white clothes, no helmet, no gloves, short sleeves. You wouldn't believe how much blood can soak into white clothes in two minutes. One of the other employees thought it was hilarious and made the comment, "Chuck was trying to jump the Mason-Dixon line and missed." Pretty clever, actually.
Anyway, I decided to quit before I took that last ride - we all recall Gene's experience two years ago.

Never been down on the road in getting towards 40 years of bikes. Been very close a number of times including nearly being rear ended while U turning by a car turning right behind me less than a week ago. Was lucky enough to glimpse it out of the corner of my eye and open the throttle wide open to get out of the way. By inches I'd think.

But have slid, rolled and bounced cheerfully along many a dirt trail.

    'Eager" 1979 CX500C Maroon.
Name is derived from the sound of this engine at highway speeds.
    Like its eager to go.
had a Horse that was "Eager"
    But didn't sound the same.
    So I called him "Duke"

    Purple,
Sorry for my presumption, you're absolutely correct. Here's the most pertinent (of many) posts about Gene.

FWIW, I am pretty unlikely to fall over but I still have to watch out for idiots that follow too close or turn across my path...

Anybody know what happened to the women who hit Gene. I think she was charged with homicide by vehicle 3rd degree.
