not tryin' to teach the old fox how to suck eggs but I've had pretty good success soldering over the pinholes on rusted tanks. then slosh with POR. it can be done & save most of the original paint, requiring only a touch up over the soldered part. just finished a 73 Triumph yesterday in fact

the fariing is close to the tank some critter built a nest there in the corner that bridged the tank and fairing and used it as a outhouse

and it ate a HOLE (with a capitol F) thru the side of the tank

its not just a hole its A HOLE it would need a soft ball size patch

Murray, make sure the snowflake wheels have been updated by BMW. It is a free recall update if it hasn't been done. The old style wheel likes to collapse while riding.

I had never heard of "snowflake wheels" so Google brought this up, and it's fairly in depth about this recall.

As much I can remember it was a front wheel of a BMW bike with sidecar.
In this case the forces are very different to a solo bike.
