Attaching PDF files to PMs or posts

I think this has come up before, but I want to bring it up again. Several times I've wanted to attach a data file such as a PDF to a post or PM, and there doesn't seem to be a provision in our forum software to do it. Am I missing something, or is there a technical or administrative reason it's not allowed?

    I'm not computer savvy.

    But could it be this.

From top right of text box when using 'go advanced'.

Dang! Good eye, Phreak, I never noticed that gadget. I'll try it.

    Many thanks!

Edit: Wouldn't you know, that gadget doesn't appear in the PM "advanced" page. Bummer.

2nd edit: Further bummer: for PDF files, size limit is 19.5 kbyte. That's about enough for a title! There's a little more wiggle room for .doc files and some others, around 6 Mbytes.

Good suggestions, Guelli, but I've got one PDF that's full of figures and photos. It would be a pain to convert to .doc.

    that just works just for:
Allowed Filetypes: jpg, jpeg, png, gif
    No .pdf files.

To send a pdf directly from Your home computer it doesn't work.

You can test a free pdf to word doc converter.
    Search in the internet.

I found one, but convertig the text formatting was wrong and the pictures were lost.

When I converterted to Word Pad the formatting was not the best, but the pictures, images were nearly on the right place.

But wether pdf or doc it's not possible to post it here.

You don't have a mate/compadre/friend who is willing to install Your .pdf on his homepage and You can set a link to Your file ?

Actually, I have a website of my own that would probably work, but it's just an experimental one, and I'd rather not let anyone see it at the moment. I haven't touched it in a couple years.

In short, you cannot attach pics/pdfs directly into your PMs but you can do so with your posts (with limitations to size and file types, etc.). For PMs, you'll have to use an image hosting site to attach the URL of your image.

Hope that clears things up. Let us know if you have any issues. Thanks!

    Cheers,
    Natalie
