This item glommed from another site "Trike Talk"

    Road to Nowhere

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If You go into Bryson City on Hwy 19 and turn at the main traffic light in the Old Downtown (goes to the Railroad Depot), just stay on that road. You will finally come to a Super Twisty, No Traffic Road that is 12 miles of very comparable to The Dragon Super Fun. It abruptly ends at this Giant tunnel cut through the Mountain......

.....it was originally intended to link Bryson City to the Hwy 441 through the Great Smoky Mountains Park, but the Funds ran out and it was never completed. There are still "ill feelings" in the Area about it. Few Folks to this day know about this Little Jewel....Ride It, You'll Like it.....

I'm gearing up to doing this ride next spring on my trike when I spend a week at the Blue Ridge Motorcycle campground and riding in the Maggie Valley.

    Hello Phil,

My Folks are living in Waynesville (after katrina) and I might be headed up on my new cx er... That's not far from them, I'll be sure to ck it out . Thanks!

I was up last year and "Deals Gap" was the subject of much news. EM, Rockslides etc... fun to watch the kneedragers and Ferraris. I'd rather ride the some of the "other" back roads in NC.

I had a nice-not ride into Cherokee from Maggie Vally last year... 12mph behind the bagos uphill... not much better down.

    found this...

John A., his wife, and I rode the Dragon at the end of March in 2003. There was not another soul on the entire length, had it all to ourselves.

I bet there are not many rafters on the Nantahala in March either. I would not bet on a solitary ride anywhere this time of year though.

Decided to take the time a find "the road to no where".

From the house in knoxville it's 95 miles to Bryson city and the start to No Where.

Nice town with a model rail road museum and lots of places to eat.

Leaving from the train depot it's 6 miles to the tunnel to no where,12 round trip.

The turns are gentle sweepers and a nice overlook to the valley below.

You can walk the the tunnel to the other side but take a flash light as they ride horses through there

and they tend to leave some exhaust on the ground!

The road from Deals Gap RT.28 was every bit as fun.

So it was about the journey and not the destination.

    Just found this thread.........

I was that way last Friday - Can't wait to go back and try this road.

We are so blessed to have such great places to ride!

I went out the BRP - down 276 to Brevard - over to Rosman - back up 215 to the BRP -

back to Cheroke - Bryson City, Fontanna, Deals Gap, The Dragon, Foothills Parkway....

    Man I love it!

I must confess though...... I was on the Flyin Potato! (89' Honda PC800)

Perfect setting for a portrait of your PC. I love the stonework frame.
