At the wheel end of each of the spokes on my '78 CX500 wheels is a black cap-like thing with HONDA on it in raised lettering.

On many modified CX's that have the '78 Comstars on them, I've noticed that the caps are missing or have been removed...

Do they just snap off? And, if they are removed, can they be replaced? Does removing them adversely affect the wheel? Sure would be easier to paint the spokes without them...I don't mind how they look, though, so I'd probably put them back on if removing them wasn't terminal...

    Thanks...

Yes, they just snap on/off, but the plastic can be brittle after 30 years, the bits that do the snapping may break away. They're just for looks, the wheel will be OK with or without them.
CX500 1978, arduino computer controlled efan, variable speed, works OK but not really worth the bother
    CB250 Nighthawk 1994, general runabout
CB250 RSD 1984, ignition issues fixed, now about this cylinder head .....

Thanks Dave....I got to the response about the plastic spoke ends....kind of what I thought but not even the factory service manual addresses taking them off....I didn't want to break them either. Might put them back on.

Did yours break when you took them off?

Spray on WD40 (or similar), and they are less likely to break when you ease them off.
