Did ya clean your air filter recently? Paper filters can and do get choked with debris. I don't like cleaning paper filters, I believe that doing so damages the paper. But, you can just blow it out with an air compressor, see if that helps, then order a new filter if that WAS the problem.

    I got mine here: Honda CX500A C D Z 78 82 GL500 I 81 82 Air Filter 12 91100 | eBay

I had this same issues. Started noticing it when I was passing a semi on a two Lane road... Thank God I had room.

In the end I did end up cleaning my carbs but I also got a new CDI. So i can't tell you which one helped this situation... Personally I would like to think the CDI was the culprit because the carbs were not half bad.

Do both and you will be really happy.

When I dealt with that issue, it was electrical. Chased it for a while. Ultimately, it was the high-speed coil in the alternator. Resistance was borderline when checked cold, but it went out of spec after heating up.

Mounting an Ignitech unit resolved it, at least while it still charges. But don't jump directly to that. Try plugs, caps, coils, etc. first.

Drove the bike today for 40 miles. It revs better when I hold my hand behind my air pods and direct more air in the pods it runs better....
Cleaned the pods with gasolin and copressed air and took it for a ride again. No differens
