I've now found that the resistance on the left side pair drops to zero after I've ridden for about 10km. From cold the bike starts, idles and runs perfectly. Then the left pot dies. After cooling she's all perfect again for 10km. So what are the options for this fault?
Can it be that a stator winding with wire as fine as a hair can make and break, repeatedly? Surely not!
Or might it be corrosion in one of the pair wires just inside the cover?
Or might it be something else?
Is it possible to find out without taking the engine out, ie just remove the water reservoir?

the pulse coils are in the very back of the motor and you can change them I HEAR with out dropping the motor

i have big hands and have not tried it that way

you have 2 choices you can install another 30 year old plus pulse coil and continue on if you need a coil i have a few good ones

or you can install the rae san hall effect kit and get rid of the pulse gens and as a bonus the rae san get srid of the nec igniters and fires the coils directly

    GET AN OIL FILTER ADAPTER

Order The Quick Build Exhaust Pipes

    GET A QUICKSET VALVE TOOL

Way to many bikes to maintain this list LOL !!

Hi Murray, many thanks again for your advice, and offer of a pulse coil. Is any special tool or jig needed to fit or align it?

Seems there are optional models for the Rae-San replacement. How would I choose the best match for my 84 Interstate? Could I expect near identical performance to what the coils have given me?

You would need to do a static timing check - see here:

The rae San has its own static tim I ng procedure

    It pretty easy to do

I am running it in several of my own bikes

The only observation I have is I have to increase the idle a bit

    As it idles slower

    Hi Guys
Just to report that I've had a RaeSan fitted and the bike again runs like a charm. Full marks to RaeSan.
