I just found a link which might help with the old CDI units. This is the first time I have heard where they can be repaired. Not sure if it is true but maybe someone out there who has the expertise might like to try and resurrect an old unit and could pass on any info.

We have seen a lot of crap like that and I try to archive it all but here's a fun question for you. Do you know how to get to the cdi board? It is place upside down and submerged in a two part rubberized epoxy that I have use many different chemicals on and nothing melts the crap away easy.

Sorry - it was just an idea. Maybe I shouldn`t make suggestions in future.

Now don't take it the wrong way, but he's right in this case, because I've tried to get to the board in there...it's a real pain in the ass.

Suggestions good..., they just don't always lead anywhere.

That may be the schematic issued by either Honda or Hitachi and was intentionally misleading to avoid cloning.

I beleive this has been built by someone and it doesn't work for some reason. Wrong circuitry, component values, who knows?

This may also be yet another schematic altogether though.....

Quite a few people have tried and spent a lot of time trying to make a working homemade CDI unit but all have failed. With the Advent of the Ignitech commercial option I think it's a bit redundant now.

There is also the,"Raymodule" that can run a CDI unit if the High voltage coils on a CDI stator are gone.

I postulated the idea from a different angle if anyone wants to pursue it e.g using a couple of cheap CDI units doctored to suit,

I contacted one vendor who did not reply about the Advance and Retard curve used in this kind of unit.

I also was considering using two of these unless one of these units could be split to work electronically?

as they can be programmed.I do not have the money to invest in this though.

The little el cheapo CDI boxes I've looked at myself wondering if they could be made to work. Might find out one day.

Wonder how many pins in that little plug? I'm guessing 4, which might be right for one side.

But what does each pin do?

You'd want to hope they came with some sort of instructions in Changlish.

Getting to the circuit board seems impossible. i started to hack at it but stopped when I got to the board. Can't see what is under the junk I was grinding through and nicked a wire. Stopped before more damage would inevitably be done. Ignitech is wonderful. One less thing that can go wrong, and have yet to hear of a bad one.
