that coil is the wrong one itis for a ti motor its a 12v coil and you are feeding it 100volts plus when the bike is running

Which coil? The new, or the old one. Also, this isn't TI, it has the Ignitech CDI unit installed. Also, the coil worked just fine long before this. I didn't install the CDI, the previous owner did. All I did was remove the airbox, clean and rebuild the carbs. This problem just arose because I disconnected the wiring for the coils, and my marking tape fell off. Then the left coil overheated when trying to figure out how the coils wired up again (before I knew it was an ignitech CDI).

In the last picture you posted there is a new - ish coil that is incorrect for your bike. The coil in the pic is for a Ti ignition and not a CDI
We can tell by the 2 wires coming from it and the fact that the spark plug wire can be removed from the coil. CDI coils from honda were non removable
    Get another coil

Your original coils were ruined anyways, I can see the cracks in the case on the right side one. They failed not because of you but because they were on the way out the door

Just get some pit bike coils from eBay for $20 (drz400 coil) should do the trick. They may look smaller but still do the job, just do a search on the forum for coils and you will see

Awesome! That's what I was looking for. I figured it was because they we're on their way out, but I wasn't sure and wanted to get as much information as possible. Thanks!
