The water pump seal fell apart, well was loose enough to just lift off. It was original with 11-12 thousand miles on it. It only leaked when cold, but it bothered me. Popping in a cam chain, stator, starter drive stuff and all seals too. Should be good for the next 20 years? Still riding at 80? We'll see. Hadn't found this before myself.

The dreaded (only by me) tripple bypass. Seems to a common service procedure on these bikes. Yet to determine if required on bike in process, but if required I can camp in your yard while we undertake repairs on it (semi-facetious). You will be fresh off yours and in the groove. I'm only in Iowa,,, hope it is greatly successful for you, and that you may ride long and safely.

No reason you shouldn't be riding at 80. But you might be the passenger.

    80 MPH or 80 yrs.

    both good.

I knew an old guy worked well into 80's

Rode a GL1000 when he couldn't hold it up easily put

on a sidehack and kept riding.

Last time I saw him riding he was pushing 90 .

    yrs not mph

Now that I am 79 80 is not so old. Am a parts guy 1-3 days a week. Put on 10,000 each of last 10 years between HD,BMW & Silverwing. How long you been here is not important-how long you got left is.

I will turn 80 in October. I still ride, occasionally, and look to the future.
I am still planning projects like I will be here for a long time. I hope to have my own
"estate sale" so the family does not have to deal with my stuff.

When I Raced At Saugus Speedway ,in what is now called

    Santa Clarita/Valencia Ca.

I used to hang with this guy and help tune a little.

    He drove a Dodge Dart with a 383 C.I. + max overbore.

THE YEAR OF THE OLD SPORT : GABBY GARRISON : At 70, He Unretires From Stock Car Racing - latimes

If I remember correcly this is about same time as Printed Article in the

    times.

It was he couldn't get his car into a good qualifying position.

So I pulled a plug, nasty,we set the timing changed the plugs

Next session came qualifier, 4th. perfect front row inside in first heat.

Went out and was blowing the doors off the other 3 .

Suddenly the 4 car length lead in the first 2 1/2 laps was gone

the sound went flat and 1 car got past for the win.

He came in hopped out cussin' and fumin' .

    an truly P.Oed

I said if you want to win the main we better get crackin'

Found a broken motor mount the engine twisted up and

broke spark plug on a frame gusset.

We chained down the motor and put in a new plug.

He went out and won the main event on @ either 69

    or 70 .

He drove an auto parts delivery truck after retiring to

for the money to pursue his passion/chase the Rush.

I'm 1 of the blurry things hanging on the fence.

The car I was supposed to drive was wrecked a

week or three before (by John W. whole name

withheld cuz he actually went on to be competitive

at Irwindale and Nascar South West Tour.

(yes I was a Nascar driver for a short while)

It takes lots of $$$$$$$$$ an dedication to

    compete.

Had a couple Sponsors, but never any Big one.

We all have pipe dreams, it's purely dependent on the T'baccy and where ya shop.

Yeh thought I might make a little $$$ 1/2 season couple wins wins

los of fun,no Trophy's 20 sumthing out of 45 competitors.

not bad considering almost 50% ofth the scheduled 27 events wer done

1 full season 1 trophy and 1/2 Doz. or so wins 16th place in points.

Fame and Fortune a remote possibility(maybe a pipe dream),meeting Al Unser Jr.

and having him drive my car a reality meeting a bunch of Nascar Greats

    a reality Bobby Allison reality.

Spending lots of time with a Great bunch of Guy's ad Gal's Priceless

    Running up credit card debt....Stupid.

"The most fun I ever had with my clothes on zipped and buttoned"

And the way I drove was sorta like football see how hard you could hit

going 70 without taking yourself out along with the other guy,

    a full contact sport.

And People actually walked up and asked for my Autograph.

That was a reality check moment for sure.

So. I got some time today to play, albeit very cold out there. And learned this today. This is a David Silvers stator that they get from Electrex LTD. You might know, by the time I figure this out, they are closed for the day and I'll be back to work until next week. My test fit didn't go to well as you can see the wire grounds out. Heck, it didn't even sit flat because of this interference. And studying the wire lay-out, I would need to do to much to correct it. I'll just wait and get another one.
