    Medium-pitched whine from speedometer drive.

So, my Turbo makes a very worrying noise from the speedometer. Only makes it when moving above 8mph, and is really bad below 20. Have replaced the speedometer unit (original had gears all chewed up) but the noise persists. Confirmed that the noise is speedo by riding with speedo cable disconnected. Lubricating cable did not help.

    Speedometer Squeal
here's a thread that addresses your problem I think. Mine was doing the same thing so I completely dismantled the speedo and figured out it was metal vibrating on account of being bone dry. I put some light oil in it last night but have not put it back on my bike yet. I will post an update on if that solved it.

Oiling it did not solve the problem, too much of the metal had been eaten away. I bought an Acewell digital speedo to replace it.

    Now it's to late.
    But for other persons:
Bring oil into the space which is yellow pointed.
To bring oil into the middle/into the hole is senseless.

The speedo on my GL500 was doing the same. A little while with some oil as guelli indicates and it's not only quiet now, but smooth too. No wagging needle.
All I wanted was a Pepsi
