    Paint.

I recently had the local NAPA blend a spray can of single stage paint for my car by supplying them with the factory paint code. They also make 2 stage rattle cans.

For a rattle can, it was rather impressive result (paint is metalic clearcoat variety). Since the car is older than some people on this board, there is no blending for fade, but I pulled an information plate and saw that the original color was a dead on match.

Which brings me to my question, they have no listing for motorcycle colors for bikes of our vintage. BUT, they can lookup blends for Japanese cars and trucks all the way back to the mid sixties.

Are there any 4 wheeled paint codes which correspond to the '78 "candy apple" red, or the '82 and up GL500 Silver?

At $20 bucks a can, you could paint 5 or 6 bikes for what a pint of just about anything metallic sells for.

Something to keep in mind for the bumpers etc. of your cage, for the price of a touch up paint stick you can get a spray can of matching paint instead. I know this may be old news to many on here, but I never really thought a rattle can mix could match so well.

Steve, I found a little bit of information in the WIKI regarding the paint codes for our bikes.

In the link below, use the drop down box on the right to get the listings expanded. This link looks more to the point than the others.

Some crash and paint shops use an electronic device that 'looks' at the paint on a vehicle. Linked to a computer it can then give the paint code if available or will suggest the 4 or 5 closest existing colours to the one you're after.

My brother is a spray painter and we were discussing this the other day.

After 30 + years as a painter, my brother is now a bus driver. He came to hate painting.

Yeah, Joe's been holding the bike hostage all this time.

I'm getting a squad together to liberate the bike now that the riding weather is around the corner.

My inquiry about paint was for the "candy pesto red" on the original CX500. The place ramprat found has a complete spray can option....starting at $200. $20 X 2 (two stage) from Napa sounds better. A rattle can of clear coat is only $10.

I have a pristine '78 tank and nacelle in candy pesto, so I'd only have to do the side covers and rear fender, that's why I don't want to go the full "do it right" route, at least not yet.

Should the GL650I be liberated from Penn, if I decide to paint it, I'm thinking of going with the same silver as my GL500I.
