    Water Pump

    Hello All,

I picked up two CX 500's that both need water pumps. Where do I get parts for those? I checked through threads quick and didn't find anything, so some ideas would be great.

You can get what you need from your local Honda dealer. Or you can get the housing seal from them and the mechanical seal from a Yamaha dealer for less.

make sure you get the steel spacer ring that fits on the end of the cam BEFORE you fit the impellor , and get the correct acorn nut as many non-original ones are taller and contact the water pump housing when installed

Awesome, I had no idea that it was still available from the local Honda dealer. I will call them this afternoon. Thank you for the heads up on that.

Don't bother getting the mech seal from Honda. It's the same part as the Yamaha, at multiples of the cost.

If you plan a full-seal replacement, get the adjacent oil seal, too.

My local Honda dealer is also a Yamaha dealer. Ask for a mechanical seal for a Honda and he will grab one off the shelf.
Ask for a Yamaha mechanical seal and he will say "ya gotta part number". Honda $45 or so, Yamaha $25 or so.

Update on the 'new' 78 CX500. I tried to get the engine to turn over. It wouldn't. I installed a spare battery I had sitting around and tried again. Still wouldn't turn over. I started checking the starter. Had power coming out of the solenoid but nothing at the big starter terminal. I removed the starter to clean it, as there was a bit of corrosion on the terminal. Not enough to do anything about normally, but since it wouldn't turn over, I might as well clean it. When doing that, I discovered that somebody had run the big black starter wire up to the ground side of the battery. Lol, ok, that was easy enough to fix. I routed the wire properly and tried turning it over again. IT still wouldn't turn over. I felt around, checked powers and grounds at the starter. Turns out the engine is seized. Completely locked up. I removed the spark plugs and sprayed a ton JB-80 down both holes. The JB-80 leaked out of both head gaskets. F.A.W.K! What was going to be a quick flip has now turned into a full overhaul and resurrection. I am not sure that the motorcycle will generate enough money on the back end of the deal to overhaul it. Has anyone done a full resurrection before and what did it cost you? I know that each one is different, but a general idea would be helpful.

depends likely less expense in a good used

    if you can

also a cafe bike generally brings more $$

    Parts are pricey,time too.
