    GL500 Repaint job

    Hey guys,
    So I'd like to completely repaint my GL500 this summer. I've heard that it costs around 500$-1000$ depending on where you go. That being the case I'd rather just paint it myself. Taking off the fairings and front fender and rear "fender" shouldn't be difficult. However I am completely clueless as to the process of painting my motorcycle. I know I'll need to sand it down, then primer it I guess? At that point I become lost. Especially since i know the fairings are plastic, where do I even begin with that? Do I treat those differently than when painting the gas tank? On my rear fender, there is a crack, I'm not sure how to go about that either. Attached is a picture of what that crack looks like. I was hoping some one would be willing to give me a step by step process. Any help would be great. Thanks guys.

    Plastic welding or even epoxy from the inside.
    Use a flexible paint designed for plastic, it will hold up better.

    the above is a thread on the kawaski form which I am also a member. This is a fairly long thread from a member who is experienced in restoration In this thread, you will find lots of good info about painting and what type of paint and primer to use. I believe he also discusses how to do plastics versus metal. I think you will find some good information in thisi thread

    the painting info is more in the middle of the thread , around page 7 I think. He states use primer for metal and sealer for plastics. He gives some examples of product used. You can see pics of his results. Let us know how your job turns out.
