I was talking to a friend and he asked me when was the last time I changed the oil. Well, it was mid summer 2013 but I thought at the time I put too much oil in. I drained it a little but it's possible I still have too much in there causing the clutch to slip at high rpm. Clearly, I'm not a an expert, but this could be it. Gonna change the oil, put the right amount back in and see what happens.

Also, I modified the cone shaped air pods so as not to block the airflow. Hopefully that helps as well.

    Murry,

I know your not using these filters anymore. However, do you know if they will fit a stock carbed GL650?

I figure I'll ride the cafe I'm building with stock carbs until tear-down for paint. This will also give me a chance to see how this motor performs before making any modifications.
#1=81 GL500I rider sold to Steve, #2=82 Yellow GL500I rider, #3=81 GL500 rider that is/has become parts bike, #4 = 83 GL650 in need of full restore but is becoming a parts bike #5= GL650I rolling basket case that is now on the road #6= Naked GL650 runs but have not started on it yet is missing title but after it's 30 years old next year I can get a new title here in Florida with only a bill of sale. (I'm up to bike #15 or is it #17 now but have sold a few)

I'm thinking about using Amal Carbs as they are available over here in UK, and are a cheaper option than Mikunis. But want to leave my Powerflow Exhaust on my CX500 Custom as i like the sound and i was running Harley Shotgun Exhausts but too loud for early work starts.

how much duty do you guys pay on a carbs kit over there??

the retail on a amal is 114.95 pounds prior to buying any jets or slides ect

so it translates to 193 usd or 141.93 euro prior to VAT so roughly 400 dollars for 2 carbs

no intake manifolds no air filters

    no throttle cable

jets needles or slides if required

or fuel lines or carb mounting spigots or flanges

and prior to taxes and shipping so just how much duty is there shipping overseas is 63 so how

is putting all this together your selves any cheaper

Duty with the original $500 price is about $200 I guess, I payed $60 but that was because you put a lower value on it.
