No one is ever gonna mistake me for a mechanic, but if you need help getting your bike running, I'd certainly try. Maybe we could even recruit someone who knows what the heck they're doing....

I would like to meet up for the day not sure if I could camp but would love to hang out awhile. I dont do Interstates yet (2week rider LOL) but I know the area well enough to not have to.

Not that anyone cares about the fairbault harley store but they are having thier 35th anniversary party with bands (Skid Row, La guns and another ) the 22nd that might be fun for some 80's grads that might be coming lol

Check with the DMV. They should have them listed. You probably will need to go out of town.

Spring Brook Rider and I got together yesterday to talk about the Fall Ride. We have tentatively laid out a route of about 110-115 miles, depending in part on which roads are under construction. The route is subject to change depending on what people might feel like doing and the weather, of course, and we can cut it short or stretch it, as we see fit. The point is, we are trying to plan and put some effort into this without being too regimented. We hope you'll come on Sept. 22.

Hey everybody. Date is set for Sat. Sept. 22nd and Sun.23rd for those wishing to overnight. Tents, trailers, kitchen sinks and family members all welcome. If family members want to show up after the the ride that would be cool. Meet at the truck stop on highway 19 and 35w at 10 am. If some of you are coming from a long ways away we can adjust the start time if need be and or adjust the ride length to whatever is best for the group. r5705 is nailing down a route we will ride together before the get together but this can be adjusted if need be. If Randall is willing and able we would like for him to be our honorary ride leader. He has really earned it. My bride of 23 years has volunteered to feed us all a supper of pulled pork and shredded beef with all the fixings. A local band of codgers [not cagers] will be gigging some tunes for us and a showing of "The Worlds Fastest Indian" is in the plan. Anyone wanting to tinker with their bike is welcome to do so. We can all learn from each other. A pony keg quite possibly may magically appear next to a sitaround fire later in the evening after the home goers have departed. Our site is located at 10163 Cates Ave. Northfield Mn. 55057. Let's all hope for some great fall weather. Take care. Michael.

I just sent out a notice to all 84 on my email list. There're probably that many more who I don't have emails for. Contacting them will take a couple days, given the limits imposed by the forum software.

Will there be an opportunity to go to the campsite before the ride itself to unload the bikes of camping gear and/or trailers that may be hauled/pulled there???

I for one wouldn't want to ride all the twisty roads either loaded down or pulling a trailer.

Will there be electricity available for those of us who need it for medical reasons? (It is hell getting old!)I know of a couple of CX/GL riders who are on sleep apnea machines.

I got the email from Randall. :D Thanks for sending that out.

Normally I would go without thought, but in this case we have some nice plans for that weekend. For one, we have tickets for the Dralion cirque du soleil show.

Big sorry out to you guys, as I was hoping to attend whatever you put together. It's always a great group of people. Hope you all have a great time!

I can only speak to the assumption, or expectation, of "twisty roads." Bear in mind that Northfield is just a bit (~50 miles) east of the Great Plains, where it gets REALLY flat. We have nice roads - decent surfaces, not all straight, minimal traffic - to ride, but this ain't SW Wisconsin. That said, I'm fully in sympathy with wanting to dump the extras before venturing out on a nice ride in the country. Spring Brook Rider will presumably make the option available.

I'll want the route ahead of time, so I can plot it in my GPS. If you're both familiar with the route and the area, I'll want one of you right behind me and the other riding whip. (If David makes it, he'll get to relax and ride in the field.)

Sorry for the delayed response. Gets busy around the farm in the fall. Electricity in the barn, [it's clean up there] is available inside. Outside it is not. There is plenty of room inside if sleeping in the open space isn't a hassle. Otherwise a motel might be the best for medical concerns. Everyone is welcome to come by early and drop off stuff at the barn if needed. The outside camping area is a scrupulously cleaned up horse pasture right next to the barn with vehicle access. Thank you Randall for your help with contacting folks. We will make sure you get the final route plan. Michael.

Just bring a long extension cord, and set up next to the barn. (Or unfold your pop-up IN the barn.)

Randall is correct both ways. The pop up will fit inside the barn or an extension cord could be run to the outside. Don't bring a cord because we have plenty. All we need now is a hot nurse to make rounds to make sure everything is (ahem) ok.

How do you want the route - written out turn by turn? MapMyRide? To program the route into your GPS, do you use interim destinations?

Just plot it in googlemaps, and send me the link. Or directions are fine. I can transfer it into MapSource or BaseCamp for my Garmin.

In preparing for the Spring Ride, I discovered that the Nuvi 1300 that I bought last winter doesn't support pre-programmed routes. A few others encountered the same disappointment with their new Garmins. During a family road trip this summer, I discovered a work-around.

The Nuvi will accept multiple destinations in the active route. By preplotting the interim waypoints, and selecting them in reverse order, the unit can be fooled into plotting the entire route (though I'm not sure how many can be entered.) I intend to try this with the 1300, but I'll have it loaded in my old 855 as a backup. I can share the set of waypoints with anyone else who wants to try it.

I just had a brain fart. If anyone is coming from a longish distance and would like to start out on Sat. fresh, they would be welcome to come in Fri. afternoon or evening, set up camp, and hang out till the main group get together on Sat. noonish. Just an option I wanted to throw out. Michael.

Does 300 miles qualify??? :D

Murphy keeps coming to visit my house project, but I am still hoping to make it there.

I am sure my wife has other ideas, but if the house is done by then I am' going to be there! All that is left is putting the siding on the house. All the repairs are finally done!

Is there any bathroom facilities there? An outhouse qualifies.
