10 months ago I started to tear down my '82 Honda GL500i that I bought for a mere $110 from a crack head (seriously, he asked for drugs at least 6 times during the sale; so disturbing). It didn't run, but had a new battery and tire set with receipts to prove it. I hauled it home and tried to figure out how to remove the flat black rattle can paint job he had bathed it in. I used Simple Green, paint remover and ultimately a wire wheel on both my 8" grinder and drill.
I then went on to remove the many itmes that would not make it to the final stage that I had in mind for this bike. Rusty from this forum whom lives locally, graciously came over to help get it running and access the damage. His help was essential, again thank you! It needed a cam chain. So while at it, I did the triple by pass. This site made it easy, what a great place this forum is!
With each item; I discarded, modified or replaced it all the while cleaning and painting each and setting it aside for the build up stage. I'm at this stage now. Once I paint my frame in the next few days, I will officially be reattaching the many items to again have a bike I can ride. I will post along the way; I hope you enjoy the ride.
